The Body Shop ~ Oils of Life Sleeping Cream Review

One of the best sleep creams on the market is The Body Shop Oils of Life Sleeping Cream, which simply sinks into the skin and makes the skin feel pillow soft immediately and also when you wake up. Sleep creams have recently become popular as a more contemporary name for a night cream which has always sounded as if it was for the mature lady, but generally they are a little richer and don’t contain sunscreen which is why they are recommended for use at night. These days, sunscreen is advised during the day even during winter, especially if you use retinol or AHA products which can increase sensitivity to the sun.

Priced at £29 for an 80ml/ $39 for 2.7 oz jar, it’s one of the more expensive products in The Body Shop and it’s in my view a premium one that equals the performance of the high end brands. It’s suitable for all skin types, and although the range is aimed at those looking for anti-aging products, it’s actually suitable for all ages in my opinion.

Rating and verdict

I first tried this cream last year when The Body Shop were running a sample offer of the facial oil and the sleeping cream and while I found the oil a bit too rich for me, the sleeping cream was just perfect. I have combination skin and don’t like heavy creams or ones with strong scents, and although this cream does have a rich scent, it is mild and doesn’t linger. The texture is more of a creamy gel, and you don’t need much as it spreads easily and then absorbs leaving the skin soft and plump.

The cream contains three seed oils:

  • Black Cumin Oil from Egypt
  • Rosehip Oil from Chile
  • Camellia Oil from China

Naturally The Body Shop doesn’t test any products on animals and contains olive oil from Italy as well. The cream is hydrating and helps replenish the skin, and is especially good for dehydrated skin, and for those who don’t use face masks. I would say this is suitable for oily skins too because it doesn’t leave a film and because it’s more of a gel than a cream, it won’t feel oily despite the name of the product.

The cream is best used after a serum or facial oil, and to be honest you can use it during the day as I have done when your skin feels dehydrated. This is a product that is often sold out online when there is a promotion, and if you are looking for a hard working but light in texture moisturiser, then this is the answer. Once tried, it will be the jar you reach for each night, and don’t forget to get a Love Your Body Club loyalty card (free) where you can collect points for each purchase to get a reward voucher. You get $10 for every 100 points and you get a point for each$1 you spend, or 10 points for each £1 spent and a £5 reward when you get 500 points. You also get a birthday reward voucher as long as you have a registered purchase at least 12 months before the birthday. Look out for their promotions where you can also collect double points, and there are often preview offers for loyalty card members too.
