Revolution Conceal & Hydrate Concealer + Foundation Review

Finding the perfect concealer and foundation is the key to a good base, but they are also some of the trickiest items to buy. Revolution have come a long way from the usual selection of light, medium or dark concealer to choose from with no less than 50 shades available, and foundations to match. The coverage is medium to full, and the foundation comes in a pump dispenser, and the concealer comes with an angle shaped wand.

Rating and verdict

5/5 for the concealer

I absolutely loved this concealer as it gave full coverage and was easy to apply. Rather than apply the wand directly to the face, I chose to dab it onto the back of my hand and then apply with fingertips. This is more for hygiene reasons, as well as to control how much you are applying. I chose C4 which is a neutral light/medium concealer, and the colour did not change, and the concealer stayed put and didn’t streak when I tested it on a night out.

The lightest shade available is CO1 for those with alabaster complexions and goes all the way to C18 for darker skintones. Priced at £7 for 13g it’s excellent value and the quality is as good as if not better than some premium brands. The important thing is to find the right shade, and to test it on your neck or jawline. The wand applicator is also handier than pots or compacts, the only advice I would give is to apply it fairly quickly as it does dry fast. Once applied, I didn’t actually feel the need for the foundation, and so is ideal for those who don’t want a heavy made up look, but who want good coverage.

4/5 for the foundation

The pump dispenser is a great idea, and you only need two pumps, so start off with one  pump first depending on whether you have used concealer already. I chose F3 which is a great neutral shade with no pink undertones, but doesn’t look too flat or sallow either. The texture is lighter than the concealer, but still gives excellent coverage and is easy to blend. I personally prefer to use my fingertips, and then use a sponge to blend for those difficult parts around the nose, mouth and around the jawline for an even look.

If you’ve used the concealer already, you’ll find you won’t need so much foundation and the finish is excellent, smooth and long lasting without feeling too matte or dry. I tested both on a long night out and didn’t need to touch up, and both the concealer and foundation had stayed in place, hadn’t flaked or streaked and didn’t change colour. The finish is semi-matte,  and because it contains hyaluronic acid, it moisturises the skin. To remove the foundation I find using a cleansing oil or balm works best as it dissolves the makeup without the need for rubbing the skin (which leads to wrinkles).

At £9 for a 23 ml bottle, and with 50 shades to choose from, Revolution has made finding the perfect base easy and affordable. Gone are the days where have to compromise on a shade and make do with what was in stock or available. Revolution have a special offer where you can save £4 if you buy a concealer and a foundation together from the Conceal & Hydrate range––that’s £12 for a concealer and a foundation!

I have to say I was impressed with the coverage and staying power, especially the concealer and I was sent a selection of shades to sample. You can’t beat the quality for the price, and although I still love my Fast Base Stick Foundation for convenience, the concealer is the beauty item that stood out as a must try for everyone who uses makeup.
