Birchbox + Paperchase ~ June 2019 Review

The June Birchbox has collaborated with Paperchase this month, one of my favourite companies! I love the box design and with it came a 20% off voucher and a postcard was supposed to be included, however that was missing. As beauty boxes become more competitive for customers and loyalty, Birchbox has tried to keep customers happy with discount offers and free gifts, but is it enough?

Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription box that costs £10 a month plus £2.95 shipping, with options for longer subscriptions if you wish. Subscribers get 10% items that are sampled if you choose to buy, and VIPs get 15% (those who have 6 consecutive boxes become VIPs). You can cancel your subscription before the last day of each month if you choose or want a break.

Rating and verdict

It seems this month Birchbox has had a few issues, where many people have been sent a blonde Benefit Gimme Brow when they have dark brows, myself included. Apparently Birchbox are trying to sort this out, as well as my missing Paperchase postcard. Each box contains a full sized Laritzy Lip Stix in Plum or Gala which is worth £20, and you can choose according to availability. Here are the other contents of my box this month:

  • Benefit Gimme Brow ~ Deluxe sample  1g @£7
  • Paul & Joe Moisturising Primer ~ Deluxe sample 10 ml @£8
  • Mine Tan ~ Deluxe sample 30 ml @£3
  • Klorane Anti Pollution Shampoo ~ Sample 25 ml @£1.30

The perceived value based on full sized items is about £39

It’s hard to review this box because it seems so random, and the sample sizes aren’t enough to really try a product out. The Benefit Gimme Brow is the wrong shade (many people got blonde it seems, and I have dark brown hair) and the brush is so small it’s difficult to use. The Paul & Joe Primer looks and smells nice, but I don’t use primers as I don’t find they make much difference, so I wouldn’t use or buy it. I don’t use self-tan, so I need to find a home to regift the Mine Tan to, and the Klorane shampoo is a handy travel size, enough for two uses, but that’s not enough to convince me to buy it although I have used Klorane in the past. The full sized Laritzy Lip Stix bumps up the value of the box, but neither are shades I would use.  So, sadly the June Birchbox was a bit of a let down for me where the only item of use is the shampoo.

That said, the items may suit other people and there are different variations of the box so content may vary according to your profile. You can order a Birchbox here while stocks last.
