In the run up to Mother’s Day there have been a flurry of limited edition boxes. These can be good value as a one off gift, or if you want to try out a box from a company without having to sign up for a subscription. The best ones do go fast; the Mother’s Day You Beauty Box sold out within a couple of weeks, but some aren’t as good value, even if they are theoretically worth more. As a general rule, if you will use more than 50% of the items it’s worth buying, otherwise wait for another limited edition to come around unless you have friends to swap with. These days they are appearing regularly, so don’t worry about missing out. Here are some current ones, but the popular ones sell out based on price point, and also the availability of full sized products.
#Glossybox: ‘Spoil me silly’ @£35 (plus postage or £30 for subscribers). This box has been offer for a few weeks and contains six items including a pair of Stella & Dot Vintage Crystal Studs. The other items are: Aurelia Miracle Cleanser and muslin cloth 30ml, Sanctuary Beauty Sleep Mask and eye mask 75ml, Eyeko eyelash curler, Laqa & Co lip lube, Naobay Hair Mask 200ml, and Crabtree & Evelyn Pomegranate hand therapy 25ml.
This is good value as the retail value is £85, and the box contains neutral products anyone can use. It does work out to be closer to £40 is you are not a subscriber, but is worth buying as you can easily regift unwanted items as they are full sized. A good buy if you are a subscriber.
#Glamour Spring Beauty Edit from #Latest in Beauty @£17.99 (plus postage if under £30). I decided to give this box a miss even though the retail value was listed £79.65, as there are only two items of the seven I would use. The box contains: Illamasqua Precision Ink in Abyss 15ml, MUA Luxe Eyeshadow Palette, MALIN+GOETZ Vitamin E Face Moisturizer 40ml, bareMinerals bareSkin® Pure Brightening Serum Foundation SPF20 3ml, Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser 30ml, M&S Rosie for Autograph Nuit Parfum EDP 15ml, £10 Murad Gift Card, Moroccanoil Treatment Light 25ml.
There is only one full sized item (Illamasqua) in the box, and the rest are special sizes, but the £10 voucher is great if you like Murad products. It is a worthwhile box particularly if you like liquid eyeliner, as that pays for itself.
#Cohorted ‘My little treat beauty box’ @£39.99. The box has a retail value of £115.50 and contains seven items: Versace Noir EDT Mini, NARS Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil in Buenos Aires/Walkyrie, NARS Pure Sheer SPF Treatment in Palomak, Sigma E25 Travel Brush, The Balm Mini Eyeshadow Primer, HD Brows Blusher in Cocktail, Laura Mercier Flawless Facebook Palette.
There is a combination of full sized and sample sized items, with well-known premium brands. This is a good value box for me as I would use all but two of the products. Although they do state there maybe substitutions, it still remains excellent value. It maybe pricier than the other limited edition boxes, but that’s where you have to look carefully at what you will use and need. It’s only good value if you use the items!
